Saint Paul prays that Christians may receive wisdom and spiritual understanding so that they can know the hope of God’s calling, the riches of His inheritance, and the greatness of His power. That divine power was revealed when God raised Christ from the dead and seated Him above every earthly and spiritual authority. Christ is the Head of the Church, and the Church is His Body. The ascended Lord is therefore not absent from His people; He reigns over them and continues working through them. Saint John teaches believers to remain in the truth they received from the beginning. Those who remain in the Son also remain in the Father and possess the promise of eternal life. The anointing of the Holy Spirit helps the faithful recognise truth and resist deception. The proper preparation for Christ’s appearing is to remain in Him and practise righteousness. In Acts, Saint Peter proclaims Jesus in the home of Cornelius. While Peter is speaking, the Holy Spirit descends upon Gentile listeners. The Jewish believers are amazed because the gift of the Spirit has also been poured out upon the nations. Peter understands that no one should prevent these believers from receiving baptism. God’s grace is not restricted by ethnicity, nationality, culture, or former separation. Through Christ and the Holy Spirit, people from every nation are invited into one Church. Jesus tells His disciples to remain in Him and allow His words to remain in them. He commands them to love one another as He has loved them. Christian love is sacrificial, faithful, and willing to give itself for others. Christ also warns that the world may hate His disciples because they no longer belong to its sinful values. Opposition should not cause Christians to abandon love or truth. The disciple remains faithful because Christ first chose and loved him. The ascended Lord calls His Church to lift its eyes toward heaven while continuing its mission on earth. Christians must remain united to Christ, welcome those whom the Spirit calls, love sacrificially, and persevere when discipleship brings rejection.
