The women arrive at the tomb expecting to find the body of Jesus. Instead, they discover that the stone has been rolled away and the tomb is empty. The heavenly messengers ask them: “Why do you seek the living one among the dead?” Jesus is not found among the dead because death could not hold Him. The women are invited to remember His words: He had already announced that He would suffer, be crucified, and rise on the third day. Their remembrance becomes faith, and their faith becomes witness. They leave the tomb and proclaim the good news to the apostles. Although their message is initially dismissed, Peter goes to the tomb and begins to recognise that something extraordinary has happened. Saint Paul teaches that the Resurrection is not an optional part of Christianity. It stands at the centre of the Gospel: Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose on the third day, and appeared to His disciples. If Christ had not been raised, Christian preaching and faith would be empty. But Christ has truly risen and become the first fruits of those who have died. His Resurrection guarantees that death will not have the final word over those who belong to Him. Saint Peter connects Christ’s death and Resurrection with baptism. Jesus suffered for sins, the righteous One for the unrighteous, to bring humanity back to God. Through baptism, Christians participate in Christ’s victory and receive a new life and a clear conscience before God. In Acts, Saint Peter publicly proclaims that the Jesus who was crucified has been raised and exalted by God. The fearful disciple has become a courageous apostolic witness because he has encountered the risen Lord and received the Holy Spirit. Resurrection faith must transform daily life. Christians cannot celebrate that Christ has risen while continuing to live as though sin, hatred, fear, despair, and death are still their masters. The risen Christ calls us to leave the tombs of sin, forgive those who have wounded us, recover hope, defend life, serve the suffering, and proclaim that God’s love is stronger than death. Heaven and earth rejoice because Christ is risen, death is conquered, the tomb is empty, and eternal life has been opened to humanity.
