Saint Paul introduces himself as a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle and set apart for the Gospel. This Gospel was promised through the prophets and is centred on Jesus Christ, descended from David according to the flesh and revealed as the Son of God in power through His resurrection. Every Christian has also received a calling. Through baptism and faith, we belong to Christ and are called to holiness. Faith is not intended to remain private or fruitless. Like Paul, believers should strengthen one another through prayer, spiritual encouragement, and faithful witness. Saint Peter calls Christians to prepare their minds, remain spiritually sober, and place their hope completely in the grace of Christ. Those who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus must not return to their former way of life. Because God is holy, His people are called to be holy in their conduct, relationships, speech, worship, and service. In Acts, Paul meets disciples who know only the baptism of John. After receiving fuller instruction about Jesus, they are baptized in the name of the Lord and receive the Holy Spirit. Their experience teaches that Christian life is more than knowing religious information. We need the grace of Christ and the transforming presence of the Holy Spirit. The prophetess Anna in the Gospel spends her life in prayer, fasting, and worship. When she sees the child Jesus, she recognises God’s salvation and speaks about Him to those awaiting redemption. Anna becomes an example of patient faith: she waits faithfully, recognises Christ when He appears, and immediately becomes His witness. The manifestation of Christ requires a response. We are called to abandon our former way of life, receive the grace of the Holy Spirit, grow in holiness, encourage one another, and proclaim that the promised Savior has come.
