The Letter to the Hebrews teaches Christians not to neglect doing good and sharing what they have with others. Such acts of generosity are sacrifices pleasing to God. Christian faith is not limited to spoken prayer; it is demonstrated through service, obedience, generosity, and concern for the community. The passage also describes God as the God of peace who brought back from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep, Jesus our Lord. Through Christ, God equips believers with everything necessary to accomplish His will. Saint Peter presents Jesus as the model for Christians who suffer unjustly. Christ committed no sin, yet He endured insults and suffering without responding with violence. He carried our sins in His body upon the Cross so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. Peter tells believers that they had wandered like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of their souls. Jesus does not merely direct the flock from a distance; He searches for the lost, heals the wounded, protects the weak, and gives His life for them. In Acts, the Church discusses whether Gentile believers must first become Jews before being accepted into the Christian community. Saint James recognizes that God is calling people from every nation. The Church must not place unnecessary burdens upon those who turn to God. In the Gospel, Jesus declares that He is both the gate of the sheepfold and the Good Shepherd. His sheep recognize His voice, and He calls each one by name. False shepherds come to steal and destroy, but Jesus comes so that His people may have life in abundance. The Good Shepherd does not abandon the flock when danger comes. He willingly lays down His life for the sheep. His sacrifice is not forced upon Him; He gives His life freely and takes it up again through the resurrection. Christians are called to recognize the voice of Jesus among the many voices of the world. We follow the Good Shepherd by trusting Him, imitating His sacrificial love, welcoming those whom God calls, doing good, sharing with others, and caring for every member of His flock.
