The mystery of Christ cannot be understood through human wisdom alone. Saint Paul proclaims Jesus Christ crucified, whose Cross appears weak to the world but reveals the hidden power and wisdom of God. Saint Peter teaches that Christ suffered innocently and left us an example. He carried our sins in His body upon the Cross so that we might die to sin and live in righteousness. Christians are therefore called to follow Him with patience, especially when they suffer for doing what is right. In Acts, Peter and John refuse to remain silent after being threatened. They declare that they must obey God and speak about what they have seen and heard. The Christian community responds by praying for courage, not merely for the removal of suffering. In the Gospel, Peter confesses that Jesus is the Christ. Jesus then teaches that the Messiah must suffer and that every disciple must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Him. The Cross is not a sign of failure. It is the road of love, obedience, forgiveness, and victory. To confess Christ truthfully means accepting His way, remaining faithful during suffering, and witnessing to Him boldly before the world.
