Saint John the Baptist does not draw attention to himself. He points everyone toward Jesus and declares Him to be the Lamb of God. A true servant of God leads people to Christ rather than seeking personal honour. The readings also call Christians to examine how they live together as the Church. Saint Paul condemns division and selfish behaviour when believers gather for the Eucharist. Saint James teaches that Christians must not show favouritism between rich and poor, because the law of Christ is the law of love and mercy. The conversion of the Ethiopian official in Acts shows that the Gospel is offered to every person who sincerely seeks God. The Christian community must therefore be a place of welcome, repentance, equality, and peace. John’s message prepares us to receive Christ with a sincere heart. We honour the Lamb of God when we turn away from sin, preserve unity in the Church, treat every person with dignity, and follow Jesus faithfully.
